My Ultimate Music Festival Packing List

Packing for a festival can feel like a chaotic game of “what if,” especially when you care about comfort, recovery, and actually sleeping. Over the years, I have learned what I always reach for first and what ends up untouched at the bottom of the bag.

This is my go-to packing list for festivals, especially multi-day events. It is built for those who want to have fun and still feel great by the end of the weekend.

Festival essentials

Start with the non negotiables. If you forget anything, do not let it be from this list.

  • Festival ticket or wristband
  • Government ID, plus a photo of it saved on your phone
  • Wallet, cards, and some cash
  • Phone
  • Portable charger or power bank
  • Charging cable and a backup cable
  • Transportation details like parking pass, train or shuttle info
  • Printed confirmations if you are going somewhere with spotty service

Comfort and clothing

The right clothes can be the difference between “this is amazing” and “I am never doing this again.”

  • Comfortable, broken in shoes that you can stand and dance in for hours
  • Extra socks, more than you think you need
  • Breathable tops and bottoms for daytime
  • A hoodie, jacket, or light layer for cold nights
  • A hat or cap for sun protection
  • Sunglasses that you will not cry over if they get lost
  • A small bag, crossbody, or fanny pack for essentials
  • A rain poncho if the forecast looks questionable

Health and safety

Take care of your future self. Festivals are more fun when your body is well cared for.

  • Reusable water bottle or hydration pack
  • Electrolyte packets or tablets
  • Sunscreen and SPF lip balm
  • Hand sanitizer and wipes
  • Small first aid kit with bandages and blister care
  • Pain reliever that works for you
  • Any personal medications in their original containers
  • Tissues or a small pack of wet wipes for emergencies

Sleep and recovery

If you like sleep as much as you like sets, this section is your best friend.

  • Earplugs for both the festival and sleeping
  • Eye mask for bright rooms or early sun
  • Comfy clothes or pajamas dedicated just for sleeping
  • Melatonin or your preferred sleep support if you use one
  • A travel pillow or something that makes travel and naps easier
  • A refillable water bottle next to your bed or sleeping area
  • Light snacks for late night or early morning hunger

Fun extras and outfits

This is where your personality comes in. None of this is required, but it can make the weekend feel more like you.

  • Outfits that make you feel confident and comfortable
  • Accessories like hats, bandanas, jewelry, and sunglasses
  • Glitter, gems, or makeup if that is your style
  • A small bag prepped for each day so you can grab and go
  • A disposable or instant camera if you like physical memories
  • A mini fan or handheld mister for festivals in warmer weather

Think about your last festival. What did you wish you had packed or brought more of? Add it to your personal version of this list so every festival feels smoother than the last.

You do not need to pack your entire room to have a good time. Focus on the things that protect your energy, your comfort, and your sleep. The more prepared you are in advance, the easier it is to be fully present when the music starts.

If you use this list for your next festival, let me know what you added or what you would never go without. Everyone’s “must pack” list tells a story about how they like to experience the music.
